Pressure ulcers are injuries to the skin and underlying tissue, primarily caused by prolonged pressure on the skin
Pressure ulcers are also known as bedsores. Ulcers mostly develop on skin that covers the bony areas of the body. Pressure ulcers occur due to pressure applied to soft tissue resulting in completely or partially obstructed blood flow to the soft tissue. Pressure ulcers most commonly develop in individuals who are not moving about, such as those who are on chronic bedrest or consistently use a wheelchair.
